Default Build questions...

Does anyone have any experience with DSS engine blocks?

Also, I've been reading some mixed reviews on TKO series trannys. Like some fail real quickly, while some kick ass. I was wondering if anyone has some personal experience on those too?

I was told that DSS blocks are just reconditioned used blocks with screw in freeze plugs

DSS looks to be a hit and miss. Some guys love them and some hate them. I have a pan and main support from them. It looks to be good stuff. But I doubt I would get anything else from them.

I have heard great things about Woody at Fordstrokers.com. He has a 331/347 shortblock for 2K that is a solid peice.

TKO's ??????

Never had one.

Yet!

I'll check out Fordstrokers definitely. I guess I should say what I'm even looking to do though. Basically within the next couple years or so I'm looking to build up just a basic 306, forged internals, decent h/c/i combo with around 8:1 CR preferably. Then I'm looking to just turbo it at around 8-10 psi afterwards.

For the money, I think I'd get a dart block that has already been machined. There's some deal out there if your not in a hurry. I'm lurking for a 351 9.5 deck Dart or FMS block myself. Waiting on the right deal to pop up

No offense,.. but the stock internals will hold enough hp to crack a stock block. Going fully forged in a factory block is pointless in my opinion. Look at Frankft. He's using a bone stock 91 H.O. engine I sold him and hitting it with about 10 PSI. Only running 1/8 mile right now,.. but if you translate the times and his MPH,. he would be easily in the 10's,.. and running on a 3.08 gear!

If your going to spend the money on forged internals for an HO engine,.. buy something like a Dart block and do it right. No point in locking yourself down on restrictive hp.

Yes the DSS block is just a stock block that they have "reworked" nothing too special honestly dont waste your money.

An alternative to the Dart block which is a little cheaper is the new Ford 302 Boss block, its as strong if not stronger than the Dart and is reasonably priced.

Hurst, I know the limits of both the stock block and stock internals. Reason I was asking about DSS or any other engine build sites was because I plan on going with a brand new block. I want this to be a long term project, and then once it's done be able to drop it in some time or another.

I still have no idea where I want to go with the car. I guess I should just start saving money and figure something out when I've got the cash.

DSS is done from a stock block! no matter how you polish a turd...its still a turd. Best part of the DSS block is there stencil they put in the valley. Sad part about is, when it breaks down the center you wont be able to read it.
