Default 3g alternator upgrade worth it?

thinking about upgrading my alternator - i can get 100amp alternators from summit for cheap ($100). i think 100a would be plenty (89 fox convertible)

anyone want to convince me that i need the 3g?

I dont see why you would have a problem running the 100A alt but heres a good read about the differences.

The Corral Tech

Personally I would go with the 3g just for the better connectors and alt life.

Depends on the "draw" of you system. Stereo, underdrive pullys, big fuel pump(s), electric fan(s), nitrous, trunck mounted baterry(s). If you car is stock, a stock alternator does fine. When you start adding extra power is only when you need to upgrade. If you upgrade alternator dont forget about the bigger feed wires that are often overlooked

3G all the way, the upgraded wiring and less risk of fires from burnt up alternator connectors is the best reason

So are you asking if you should go with either the Summit $100 deal or the 3G?
I know summit sells those one wire (chevy style) alternators pretty cheap but I wouldn't suggest them. 3G all the way!!

IMO unless you need an alternator because its not working or not keeping up with a stereo or something....spend the 100$ on something important

I like the 95 amp 3G,feels like less drag on the engine than the 130 amp.
