Default Carburetor questions

So, I am another one of those swapping in a carb and going away from efi.

Basically, the question for me is spread bore or square bore.... The choke is gonna be mechanical, but what is a "Ford Kickdown"?

See this ad for what I'm leaning towards, it's a square bore (yeah, I do more street driving that strip driving but I want the best all out-performance when I need it)... the options on this one say Ford Kickdown: no

Shed some light? Thanks.

spread bore is the old GM rochester pattern, 99.9% of all ford intake mani's use square, and the ford kick down is for the c-4and 6. You f-n New hampshire guys

Ok, spread bore is like a quadrajet...Squarebore is usually a holley. Basicly, the difference is this: The back holes on the bottom of the carb are larger than the front two holes on a spreadbore. However on a squarebore, the holes are all the same. Your need is detirmined by the intake. The intake will be either squarebore or spreadbore, and both the carb AND the intake should match.

On the Ford kickdown, this is for the transmission. If you're running a manual trans, you don't need the Ford kickdown. However, if you're running an automatic, then you likely WILL need one.

if im not mistaken, a kickdown has to do with an auto trans. and if this is true then if your running a 5speed then you do not need a kick down.

wrong, if you hooked a tv cable to that kickdown your clutches would be welded together in short order.

LOL @ New Hampshire.... it's Australia dude.

So, I get the spreadbore vs. Squarebore... Now I get the kickdown gimmick. I have a manual so I don't need the kickdown.

Thanks.

(Stephan is a smartass)..... hahaha

Stephen then.

Last question, manual choke or electric choke? It's Florida and it's hot, so do I even need the choke?
