deffinately staying EFI, but not mods. I just want the torque and a motor that doesn't cost $850 for a long block from a junk yard.

Motor: $200 ( 70K 94' Mustang GT from an auto car that ran and had good A/C )
Adaptor/clutch: $230
Harness/ECU/modification: $230
Bell housing/slave/presure plate from a 80's 4.9L I6: $70
FLywheel, brand new: $60
shorty truck headers: $160
rear main seal/timing cover set and seal/upper intake manifold gasket, oil pan gasket : $80
O2 sensors direct fit: $90
Paint: $10
oil filter, oil, PVC: $20
New melling oil pump: $30
New 130A alternator, New water pump, New truck starter: $180
Stant 180degree Thermostat and gasket: $15
Used balencer/Damper: $20 egay ( scored a deal )
Valve cover gaskets/ upper manifold+ gasket kit: $30
Dayon serp. belt: $25

$1450.... So far... Ouch... A lot of this could be "by-passed" possibly, but I just couldn't let this motor go in without doing some of those things.

Its going in my 02' TJ wrangler apex edition.

Here is the jeep.

I kind of do want to do a "how-to" or what ever, but I think I'm just going to try and "sum it up" after its done.

Looks like I'm going to have to fab the mounts up myself, and they will prob. need to be solid. Its a SUPER tight fit. The V8 is 65LBS. lighter than the 4.0L and its way smaller. With it being smaller, it sits real far back in the frame rails. The damper will actully be even with the front axle, so it will actully be a "mid-ship" engine.

All this work, and no replacement cam?

I'm building it for 95% duribility, 3% for cheaper parts, and 2% for performance.

The way I end up, I'd spend the $200 on a cam ( which would be an idle to 4000RPM ALL TORQUE cam anyway ), then I'd "go ahead" and replace the lifters, and prob. "go ahead" and get some roller rockers, and at the end of the day, I just want a perfect running normal idling, normal driving 5.0L motor that reliable.

I did think about the cam though... I was thinking about calling comp cams and saying " this motor will never see above 5000rpms, and I want the best torque I can get from idle to 4000rpms ".

If I wanted a bit more, I'd do the whole GT-40 threatmeant. Matter of fact, I could have gotten a FREE explorer intake/TB ( basiclly the same as a 93' cobra ), but I don't want anything but a reliable, predictable V8 for the jeep.

Jamie... The jeep was 3440LBS. with the 4.0L. The 5.0L is 65LBS. lighter, so it should actully be about as fast as a SN95 when I fix the gear ratios ( 3:07s right now, ford 8.8 soon to come ).

Sour, I can respect that. However, if you do it right, and work with an engine builder or at least get their input, you can have your cake and eat it too with cam selection. Yes, you would likely need to replace the lifters if you replace the cam, but the rockers could be left alone. Plus, with the right cam, you will have a torque monster that will idle properly and cause you no problems. But, I can respect you for your decisions. It probably will work best the way you chose to go. At least it'll make you happy in the short term. A true project is never finished though. LOL

I know, it wouldn't supprise me if I ended up with some GT40 heads and a cam sooner or later... This project was supposed to land $200 over the cost of a junkyard 4.0L. Basiclly $1000 ( 4.0Ls are around $850 pulled for MY WRANGLER, due to being different than the 87-2000 4.0L ). And its at about $1550 at this point, so I'm just looking to "get-r-dun" at this point.
