Default Head Design?

Me again...

With head design, what are the most important things to consider when selecting? Overall flow numbers... Chamber CC size... Intake/exhaust valve sizes? Pedestal mount vs. stud mount... Etc, etc... Is most of it a preference idea?

I know that when looking at a head's part number, 195cc or 205cc, that's usually a good indicator of what motor those heads will breath best with. IE: 205cc AFR's will be hard-pressed to be used to their fullest on my little 306ci. But having said that, I know that from what I've read, you can deck the heads to effect the piston chamber CC size and actually make a larger head work in a smaller motor...

Just trying to get some functional ideas under my belt (like w/the deck heights thread)...

Flow , velocity and volume. A big volume head dont mean shit if you done build enough velocity it will be a fucking pig

Really need to figure out which way you want to go first, spray, turbo, 302, 351. Yuo get bigger runner/ cc heads if you intend on go with a turbo but you def. dont want to cut them down to make them work with existing combo or you'll be lookin for heads when/if you put a turbo on it.
I personally would not buy pedestal mount heads becusea of versatility and adjustability for future modifications or changes in combo if you chooose to.

Josh, you have a flat top piston 306. look for a 58-60cc chamber to run n/a or like 70cc or so to run a bunch of boost. You won't even find most heads offered in a pedestal mount as they only use a 5/16 bolt compared to a 3/8 or 7/16 rocker stud. For the type of setup you're looking to run look at the Vic Jr's or the AFR 205's and up...

You could always run some 4k baller Brodix heads but i'm being realistic.

I realize this isn't a street car or I would never suggest a head that big.

$hawn, what about an N/A + Nitrous setup? Still in the 60cc range?
