what gears would be better? 3:55 or 3:73. i want to be able to stay on the highway for long traveling. like road trips. but still get a good kick out of them.

3.73 there isnt as much of a differance in mpg as some people seem to think. everyone i seem to talk to that has 3.55 gets just a little more out of a full tank then i do.

i have a 3:73 also--i still get good gas mielage--actually alot of people go with a 4:10 on the modulars but id get a 3:73 over a 3:55 if your super worried about highway travel then just go with a 3:27 but it probably not worth the money to geat a 3:27....at 90mph i rev at 3000rpm and still get good mielage....the mod motors dont seem to mind high revving...

Do you have a automatic or 5-speed ? You should go one set higher for a automatic because of the way the trans. is geared. Therefore a 3:73 on a auto. is the same as a 3:55 on a stick. If you have a auto go with the 3:73 to keep from having all of your power right out of the hole and go with a 3:55 on a stick for the same reason. 4:10s are to high on either car unless you have gumdrops for tires. Hope that helps.

i have a 5spd manual with 3.73s and get around 18-19 mpg..at 75 in 5th im only reving 2300.. i would go with the 3.73s if you want a little more low end..3.55s or even 3.27s if you just want that extra top end low rpm driving...

My vote would be for the 3.73s as well...
I only get about 16-17MPG... but that didnt change that much from the stock gears.

Speaking of which... Ive been running with the original speedo gear in there since... anyone have any experience with the compensators?

I believe my mother has that on her Cobra but Craig can tell you for sure. You can also get the appropriate speedo gear. They cost about $5 from Ford. Just go to the parts dept tell them the gear ratio and they should be able to find one for you.
