My friend has a 96 ford ranger and he wants to swap out his 4 cyl. engine for a lighting one. Is this a possible swap? I would think the engine would be to big for his engine bay. I say he should go with the 6 cyl. ranger engine or maybe some other engine that would work good with his car. Any suggestions?

 

The block will actually fit with a little massaging but he would have to have a huge cowl hood. Plus you would have to make a lot of custom stuff headers steering shaft mounts and you would have a hell of a time getting a good tranny under the Ranger. Come to think of it this is a bad idea. Go with the 4.0L and add the new supercharger kit they make for it.

No doubt ! But I bet you could almost go buy a Lightning for what it would cost to do the swap. But it wouldnt be a sleeper like the Ranger !

 

There is. But the problem here is the hood clearance for the blower. You would also have to spend some serious jack to modify and put in the good tranny and rearend. Not to mention a beefed up fuel system to feed the blown beast.

I would put a 5.0 cobra motor in it out of a 94-95. It would be cheaper easier and able to make more power.
