Default need a foundation

well its been a while since i have been on here ... i just got some money saved up ... my build has not progressed at all except the strip her down part

i need to find a good block capable of supporting over 500 without splitting down the lifter valley looking to stay in the small block range 289 302 327 347 ect ... maybe even 306 ... the plan is to throw a Garrett tv7705 on it with all the bells and whistles .. lol
ive got the money to do the build but i need a foundation anyone got a block from the 60s or early 70s i have heard good things about them being up for the task at hand i just dont have enough money to go get a sportsman block or dart ect..... lemme know

thanks -Eric

I would get a nice mexican block 302. I think they were made in 1970 IIRC.

Then I would build a 331 stroker. Those have a short enough stroke that you won't be smacking stuff around. Plus, they can wrap up quick. All the bang for the buck with less hurt on the block. They should be able to handle up to 15 psi pretty easily also.

And no, I don't have one. Sorry

Check out turbomustangs.com search mexican blocks there is a wealth of info on there about them. A few guys have made over 1000hp with them, turbo motors, i'd say the power level you want to run, a early mexican block 68 to 71 would be plenty strong, big thing is your tune, you can scatter a dart block if thats not right, but if you have the coin, buy the best. Heres a good thread on mexican block comparisions:
http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/in...?topic=23254.0

I have a 68 mexican block I'm doing with a steel boss 302 crank and good rods, gonna test it strenght when the finances allow, they make a killer halo style main girdle, that ties into the oilpan rails, a few of the guys are using running mexican blocks, pretty cool setup.

Hell theres no tellin how many stock roller shortblocks have been in the 9's,
seen a few tappin on the 8's, thats whats great about a turbo setup, if the tune is right, it doesn't kill parts like the sauce or a blower does.

Good luck on your build, there is definitely alot of info there for you to read, kept me busy for hours, from what I read they are very capable of handling good power.
Brian

IIRC the mexican blocks were cast with more Nickle content in them, which contributed to them being "stronger" as well as having extra metal in other places.....I could be wrong though.
