8.8 axle length
Ok i have a rear end out of a 89 GT vert with 3.08's and Limited slip. they have drum brakes. i want to put disc brakes on it. now how long is the Drum brake 8.8 axle vs the SN95 8.8 axle? ive heard the SN95 stick out/longer then the Drum version by 3/4in. is this correct? Thanks for the help
ok well im not looking to put 800$ for disc brakes into this. im leading off what chevy guys are tellin me and this is the only access to a Ford forum i have. but what about the MKVII rear brakes. are the axles any longer then the Drum style? basically im lookin at putting disc's on the rear with minimal rear width change as the 8.8 is going into my 86 SS and is 1/4 in shorter then factory on each side so im trying to keep it within that size and if i could match the wheelbase that would be great. i dont want to pick up that kit for 800$ when i need to take axles and rotors to be drilled to 5x4.75 and thats guna be more money.
they are 3/4" longer, you dont need a custom bracket made, you can use everything off the sn95 rearend.

The fox and SN95 8.8 housings are identical in width. What makes the SN95 wider is that they added an exciter ring for ABS and it the actual axle that makes the width 3/4" wider then the drum 8.8.
If you absolutely must have disc brakes with a fox width,.. try to score an SVO or Cobra setup.
8.8 is becoming a popular swap into Fbodies as well.

yes i kno its becoming popular with the G body guys since a 12 Bolt 8.5 Gm came in Cutlass 442's and Turbo buicks. and by them becoming more and more rare its putting the price on these rear ends into a heavy price as a trashed needing rebuild will cost 800$ for the rear and a mint one or rebuilt will fetch 1500$+ i picked my rear up for a 6pk as it was a leftover from a car build and i snatched it up. i am upgrading the front brakes on my car so i figured go all out and do rear disc too. so as i rebuild it with new seals and 3.73 gears. will the MKVII disc's work?
