Default trying to decide on rear tires

Cars on stock suspension and running 16 inch ponies. Have 225\50\16 up front. Wanted to go wider in the rear, but everywhere I look I can't find a tire the same profile or larger in a 255. How big visibly is the 45 series compared to the 50?

Here's how to decode a tire

225= tread width in MM
50= percentage of width for sidewall height
16= rim diameter.

So basically your current tire is 225mm wide, and has a sidewall height of 112.5MM (50% of 225). A 255 45 would be 114.75MM. So it would be a couple of MM taller.

Well found a few options

Street tires:

Hankook Ventus V4 255\50\16
Falken Ziex 255\50\16
BFG G Force Sport 255\50\16

Drag radials but not sure if I want theses on a DD:

Nitto 555r 245\50\16
G-Force T/A Drag Radial 255\50\16
Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial 255\60\16

Almost tempted to get some 15" draglite rims since there is such a larger tire selection.

i have the gforce sports on my cars, Ive been very happy with them for daily use and handling.

I just use spare rims for slicks and drag radials. They make 28x10.5/16 drag radials and slicks which work perfect for me.

not for the 1st 2-3 thousand miles. Depends how fast you wear the tire but with like any tire the less tread the slicker it is.

Just thinking with less tread pattern it would be a little slippery in our lovely florida rain and shitty drainage.
