Question Question for a buddy doing a A9L swap into his '95

He tells me that he has a 93 cobra computer that he has plugged into his '95 GT and now the car will start and run, but when he turns the car off, it will continue to run.

I have searched the Corral to find alot of threads where users are telling guys to search and the info is out there. Well I come across terms like PIH and start researching to find out what that is and I have had no luck. I'm about to tell the guy that he's just out of luck.

Apparently, the general consensus seems to be, that the A9L swap is just okay, but takes a decent amount of work for little gain vs getting a chip burned for an application.

I know the guy won't ask a shop and will just work on making his A9L swap work. I just wanted to help him out if I could and if it doesn't get too involved, otherwise, Im'a have to start writing stuff down to pass on to him.

Thanks Rick, I will hit him up tomorrow and see what he says. Like I said, I know he probably wouldn't take it to a shop, but I'll try.

When did Nelson open up a shop? I guess I gotta call him up sometime.

He said he had a 93 cobra computer, I assumed it was an a9l. What computer did the cobras use and do you know what he could do to fix his problem? Thanks for the info.

I am pretty sure that a 93 cobra computer was setup to run 24lb injectors with a 19lb mass air. I am not sure if he is aware of that, but something to think about.

I didn't catch cobra computer in original post (3 year old on lap) just saw A9L comment.
true, cobra's didn't use APL, don't recall what they used but to be honest you can really get more performance out of an A9P imo.
the automatic GT computer had more agressive spark and timing tables to try to make up for what a turd the car was. works great in a stick car.

obviously the best answer is to go with an aftermarket controller but an A9L or A9P is a very cost effective answer if you're not making a huge amount of horsepower. Nothing will take the place of a custom tune.

I ran 175 shot for 3 years in my95 with gt40p heads cut 20thousandths and only problem I ever had was before the computer swap, the factory fan controller went out after a hot day at Bradenton (about 10 passes) on the way home and I popped a head gasket. Then the fan worked fine, happened 2x before I figured out why and changed to the A9L and then no probs.
