Default AOD flex plate question...

Ok, my buddy has a 88 cougar with a 302 and AOD... He bought a 302 HO from another forum member, that came with a flex plate. He went to drop in the motor with the HO flex plate attached, but seems his TQ Converter does not match up with the Flex plate... Did they make different flex plates depending on year, or model? Like ho-non ho?

Thanks,
-Mike

its an AOD, the center of the torque converter is too big to slip in to the flex plate.

the engine came out of a car that had been swapped to a manual, so the pilot bearing was still there. thats why it wasnt going in. problem solved.
