Default Starting car question... after two years of sitting

So yeah... I just got another Mustang coupe.

Its been sitting for a solid TWO years, possibly a little longer.

Obviously its going to take more than just replacing the battery to get this thing started.

I was wondering how I would go about starting this thing? Its a carb'ed auto 351w, they left the oil, coolant, gas and everything in it. I'm trying to figure how I'd go about checking things to make it turn on and run good...

I know obviously drain everything and refill it with fresh stuff but do you guys think I'll need any new parts? The car has a sump on it also if that counts for anything... also should I drop the oil pan and the gas tank you think? And will the fuel pump be affected by sitting so long?

Also what kind of oil should I run in a 351w, I'm just going to use water/water wetter mix for the coolant and obviously 93 octane, just got to figure out why this thing isn't running...

And does anyone know where I could possibly rent a storage unit or something where I could store and work on the car without problems? I really need to get it closer to me because the car is in Hudson and I live in St. Pete so its kind of a bitch to actually get time to work on it.

Thanks guys.

Oh and does anyone have any spare 4 lug wheels I could have for cheap with tires to move the car around on? Its on drag lites with some boo boo tires on them and one of the rears was flat when we picked it up.

if your concerned pull the dizzy and prime it, run the priming tool in reverse btw.

i would probably unhook the coil, turn it over with the key until it made pressure then fire that bitch up

is this uncle pats old coupe? the one with saleen ground effects?

Yeah I figured to change the fuel filter, just forgot to put it up in the first post.

Steve B. I'll have to try that first, either/or will work? Should I prime it with the drill first and then do the crank method?

And yes this is Pat's old coupe, I bought it from Frankie Fig's and fixed a few things and sold it and I bought it back for $500 cause it isn't running and its been sitting outside for two years doing nothing so I've decided to fix it.

Really thinking about getting rid of the Saleen parts as I prefer the look of an LX coupe and I absolutely do not like the spoiler, also need a new battery box for it and some interior pieces now, along with a good scrubbage as the amount of nastiness on the car is rediculous.

Youll be lucky if carb doesnt need rebuilt, but thats no biggie. Id drain that old oil and put at least some cheap fresh in to fire and run for awhile and then do another oil change. Its full of water moisture and has lost its properties.

I definately need to check the carb, I know that, and of course the fluids will need to be changed.

The fuel pump should be fine right? Even though the car hasn't ran in years.

Kind of annoying cause I need to go through the engine bay with a fine tooth comb, along with the interior and clean it all up and get it running good again, car ran awsome when I had it and I kept it clean.

Oh and I just realized, should I flush the C4? You guys think it will like that at all? I have no experience really with autos other than last time I had one flushed it self destructed into a million pieces.

PM me for your storage needs. I work for a storage facility in Tampa during the day. Need a 10x20, 10x25, or 10x30? We have em. Just let me know.

I would definatly flush out the fuel out of the tank, change the oil, change the trans fluid, and change the coolant. The carb will need rebuilt. The fuel pump MIGHT be ok. Is it an electric pump? Or a mechanical one? Pull all the plugs, and shoot a bit of oil into the cylinders before rotating anything and let it sit for a day or so. Right before start up, pull the dizzy, and prime the motor, check for fuel leaks, and fire away.

Help me out here guys...Did I forget anything? I don't think so.

dont flush the tranny but do change the fluid. I have seen tranny's with alot of miles shit them self's after a flush. If its never been flushed I wouldnt do it.

And like everyone else says the carb is probably crapped up, change all the oil, coolant, and clean the gas tank and probably wouldnt hurt to change the rear end fluid. That stuff doesnt usually go bad but sittting 2 years it just another 30.00 dollar insurance.

And yes pull the dizzy and prime the motor again before initial start up.

good luck buddy.
