Honestly we have hit a PI mod motor with a 175 shot with no problems. While I will agree that was pushing the limits on the stock bottem end.
But if you stay in the 100 to 125 range you will be good all day long.
I have a cutomer with a 97 still non pi (dropping car off next week to do pi swap
) with a 125 shot and he is reporting no problems....except the tread on his rear tires seems to be wearing alot faster 
Nitrous is as safe as you want it to be. Alot of people are scared of it. But done correctly is just as safe as a turbo or supercharger.

but the douche bag with the pi motor with the 175 shot didnt change his oil for 6 mouths and 3 bottles of nitrous a week . .. atlease thats the word on the street .
