Default who do you guys go to for transmission work?

im thinking im going to have to have my trans rebuilt soon. third gear grinds real bad, and sometimes doesnt let you in if you try to shift it fast. is this my syncros? or could it be a shifter issue? shifts smooth as glass when your driving it easy though. also goes in smooth and with no noise downshifting hard from 4th. its only a fast shift from 2-3 that it grinds on. the previous owner of the car never had an issue when he powershifted it. but the guy who owned it between him and i trashed it. if any of you guys are willing to go for a ride to lemme know what you think, im game for it.

so who do you guys prefer for transmission work? how much would they normally charge? its a Tremec 3550.

Bring it by the shop some time this week. I would be more than happy to go for a ride with you and see what's up with it. Sounds like a synchro imo.
All info is in my sig. Pm or call me.

this was actually one of my intentions. i built the top end of my motor myself, so im not afraid to tear into things. i just have never seen the inside of a trans, let alone how it works. im thinking of grabbing a messed up T5 for free or cheep just to tear it down and get the feel for it.

Its not bad at all, you will need the tools mostly. You will need three things for the best reference. Go to Hanlon Motorsports - T5 and Tremec parts, sales and service and buy the T5 rebuild video, Bob has been in the business for years, and knows his shit. Pick up a T5 tranmission service manual, and then of course a master rebuild kit.

+1 3550's are cake to work on. Shinysideup just did one himself if i remember right or it might have been a t-5. And also that DVD you were talking about is an awesome tool to have!

you guys think ill be fine driving on it for a while like this if i take it easy? wont take it to the track or nail third gear untill i get it done. shifts like glass when you shift normal. am i hurting anything down shifting into 3rd hard considering it doesnt make any noise doing so?

nah, you will be fine for alittle bit, I damn sure would not powershift the thing. But regular day to day driving, it will work for a little bit.
