It's not a DD, but I can't gimp out and throw a carb on her. I like the electrical aspect of cars so I'd rather cram a few brain cells
you must not have a signal, that is a fast easy way to test i use often...

Few things I learned today...

My test light bulb took too many amps for it to light up. Used my multimeter and I saw ground right away. Pulled out the plugs and some of them were blobs of carbon. Replaced all the plugs, runs better but still won't restart hot. So I have fuel pressure, injector toggle, spark but no starting.

I'm going to do a compression test this week sometime and see if she's losing compression when hot. The rotaries do that in the RX-8's they run fine cold but when they get hot they won't restart.

Also having a problem with getting the thermostat to open for some reason. This is the 3rd one I've put in there and it still isn't opening. The pressure on the hose feels high enough to open it. Only thing I can think of is the hose is expanding out to the point of raising the pressure needed to open the thermostat.

Debating on whether I got a good deal on this car or not

Found out when I got the plugs today that it looks like it has E6 heads on it which would lead me to believe the engine isn't from a 93 as stated by the previous owner Either that or its a 93 cobra engine and they put plugs in it for an 86 which I highly doubt. The E7 heads have the shorter plug length the E6's have a really long one and the GT40/cobra heads have an in between size.

Dont take this the wrong way, many have done it!! Is the thermostat in the right way??? Pressure doesnt open a thermostat tempature does. What temp thermostat is in there?
As far as the fuel pressure issue where is your FP gauge located? Be sure you checking pressure at the rail. Sounds like the fuel pump is going south on ya., Ive seen them get hot and pump, and the pressure be low and work fine when they cool off

Thermostat can only fit in one way that I know of . I've been trying discount auto parts brands, maybe i'll go get a motorcraft one instead. I'm a mechanic so I usually don't mis little things like that but it happens! .

It's got a new pump in it fuel pressure is exactly where it needs to be even when hot. It's a 255lph so even if it was falling on it's face it would be pumping out more than the factory It's not a fuel pressure issue at all the injectors are toggling, maybe the duty cycle is too low to start or something I dunno..

Thinking maybe the coolant temp sensor has something to do with it? That's the only thing I can think of...

Thanks for the input guys this 86 is becoming a pain in my arse and my escort is still faster than it .

Do you have a FP guage on the rail? Im ASSuming you do
As far as the FP being new I went through 3 in my GN (Walbro 255) in the box NEW that had problems. G/L gremlin suck !!

Ok, you may have tried this already and yes, I see you replaced it already once, but.....(and I KNOW you checked the injectors to see if they were firing, and you checked for spark, but try this anyway) replace the module for the distributor with a known good one. I had a similar incident before, and thats what it was. I had spark at the plugs, but it wasn't when I needed it, and I had replaced the module with a new one a few weeks prior. Replacing it fixed the problem.

Yeah took me a bit to find the schrader valve normally they are in the front, on this rail it's right next to the fpr. When I got the car the FPR vacuum line was plugged off, i hooked it up as the factory intended and the pressure is dead on. I may try another module here, it's a lifetime warranty one. Gonna try a coolant temp sensor first as the one that I pulled out today looks like the original lol
