Default Opinons please

Hey whats up guys, i have been a member on this forum for quite a while now but have been mostly Honda/Acura based.

Well i have always Been into american muscle but never came across a car that reall Blew up my skirt if you know what i mean

A friend of mine bought this car a while back and all honestly he isnt exactly mechanicly inclined to say the least and it has been sitting for almost 2 years due to stupid problems with it, so he got a little hard on money and i scooped it up for a REALLY good price. Like i said he BOUGHT it from someone and i Bought it from him so the details on the setup are sketchy, i plan on a tear down and rebuild for it.

It's a 87 4cyl Coupe.

from what he said its a 347 ( to my knowledge thats a bored and stroke 302 correct? )

He dont know what heads are on it, what pistons , what carb what running gear etc etc.

I was hoping someone could possibly enlighten me on some knowledge about these cars and/or point me in the direction of some information about these cars.
Also im not a dumbass i know cars just not particulars about mustangs ( Ie what parts are interchangable , what "works" on these cars, suspesnion etc etc.

I was actually hoping somone might reconize the car and give me some info on it . It came from the orlando area. Had a 2stage nitrous setup on it.

Here are some pics of the car to give you some insight on it. Opinons are welcomed negative or positive.

Also the car for some reason won't come out of neautral , my friend said he put a new valve body in it ( reverse manual ) i even drove it afterwards , it drove fine just no 3rd gear, then it sat, now it wont come out of neautral, any ideas?

thanks in advance guys.

_Jake

I don't know what you picked it up for, but if you got it for less than 3 G's you got a great deal.

Rebuild that C4 or swap a T5 in there and go racing.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I'm going to check everything out as soon as it warms up some, i hate working on cars when it's cold. Im going to check the heads out, carb etc etc, and then onto the tranny, i guess im going to check the valve body out see if all is well, change the fliuid and if need be pull the tranny.

Car runs great, but it seems to run a little rich to me. It was jetted for nitrous so im thinking maybe i need to change the jets out to run it n/a for the time being. And also service the engine.

Then onto the wiring Good thing ive rebuilt F/I wiring harnesess b4, this carb stuff is easy, im starting to like it more and more .

Can you please describe won’t come out of neutral in more detail. Can you physically shift the Trans in all gears? Does anything work Reverse or Park?

The linkage will not move, it wont go into park or any gear. Ive tried moving it with the shifter and undoing the linkage and trying to move it by hand, it wont move.

Ok, Take off the pan there are little e-clips with linkage connecting the out side leaver to the actual VB. These are infamous for falling off. This problem/symptom will give you that leaver locked up feeling. If that doesn’t work take the VB completely out (it simple really) just don’t over tighten the bolts on the installation and keep track of what bolts went where cause some of them are different lengths. Once the valve body is completely removed thoroughly clean every passage out with brake or carb cleaner, while working the Valve back in forth. Please note I have never seen the valve its self lock up that hard. I think your issue is the internal linkage.

Cool, thanks man. I hope thats the problem. Would that also cause the car not to go into 3rd? when it was previously driveable?

Could you actually shift it into 3rd but the trans just wouldnt go? Or Did it feal as if it something mechanical was keeping you from shifting to 3rd?
