C-4 Flex Plate
Putting a C-4 in my 1986 Mustang GT. Need to know what flex plate to get for it? I was told the C-4 came from a mid-late 70's Mustang and is the smaller 157 tooth bellhousing. I'm trying to look the flexplate up on partsamerica.com but the 5.0's all came with 164 tooth ones. SO maybe the transmission came from something else ? I see one from a 1970 Mustang 5.0 with a 157tooth flywheel. That one would work I assume? Some info would be greatly appreciated!

i believe it will work...i dropped a c4 in my old foxbody, and im pretty sure we didn't have to change the flex plate at all...i forget what the tranny came out of, but it was a freebie so it didn't matter

you can use your AOD flexplate (164 tooth) with a big bell C4 (164 tooth)
the 157 small bell was used in cars, the 164 big bell was used mostly in trucks and a few cars, thats why the mustangs came with the 157

It's got a manual trans in there now so I don't have an AOD flexplate. My starter is for a manual trans which is 157 tooth too right? The car it came out of has a flexplate, but it's for a 331 stroker so it has a 28oz isntead of 50 oz imbalance *sighs*

the stick flywheel is a 157 tooth, take it and try to place it inside the c4 bell...if it fits pretty tight but fits its a small pattern, if there is a lil bit of room then its a big bell

I know for sure it's the small one. Just couldn't figure out where to get one from locally lol. Was going to order one for a Mustang or equivalent from advance auto parts since most of theirs run about $40. I found an SFI approved one for 39.99 on E-Bay Hays brand. That should work right?

If you need the 28oz imbalance the the earlier style 157 tooth is what you need...... If you want a 50oz imbalance 157 tooth you have to go aftermarket, these can be found in B&M , CAT, J&W and a couple others.....
