Default Nitrous / Meth *DEBATE*

Lets start with the car, it's and 03 cobra pullied, cat back exhaust, chipped, and tuned. I believe it made 44? hp and 45? tq.

This is my buddies car and he already has a dry nitrous kit and planned on spraying 100-150. How safe would that be? He also wants to port the stock supercharger down the road.

He is now thinking about a meth setup. What are the pros and cons to using meth? Someone mentioned it eats away your oil and sometimes the pumps fail.

Which way would you guys go? That's as far as he plans to mod the car for now.Btw it has about 70k

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jaime

Methanol is an alcohol and yes alcohol wash's down the cylinders and works it way down into the oil. Go to the track and walk around the pits. Watch an alcohol car drain the oil it will look like milk, thats the alcohol washin down the cylinders. But your talking about spraying it into the intake at a very fine mist plus you probably wont use pure 100% meth it will be some sort of mix. So keep up with regular oil changes and your good to go.

a lot of the import people use 100% meth not a 50/50 mix....

people also told him he would make more power with meth then N2O ....

if he decides to with meth make sure he does some type of fail safe ... i have seen so many motors go to shit because the meth pump took a poo

well...the common misconception is that nitrous cools....yes, it does cool the intake charge, but once its past the valve and in the cylinder, it heats it up much more than without it.

methanol on the other hand will cool the intake charge, and have a significantly lower combustion temp. the octane rating of meth is like 120 i believe, so i would say it has an effectiveness of about 100-105octane once its to the cylinder

with nitrous, your adding air to the equation, with meth you add fuel....both provide cooling througout the intake tract but thats where the similarity ends. you gain power with meth by having denser air than without any meth cooling it. meth also allows you to run more boost and more timing, probably surpassing the power benefits of nitrous.

also, your not running an alcohol/meth car with the kit your maybe using a gallon of methanol over the span of an entire month if not longer. I was pretty generous with my meth kits jetting and i used it quite a bit and it took me about 3 weeks before the low level light would come on. so the effects on your oil will be minimal, but as said previously, keep up with routine changes.

...you probably see them pop because they were tuned so aggressively that they NEED the meth. there are ways to make a failsafe for this. best one i have seen is have a pressure switch t'd up and have it wired to an MSD setup to add the wanted timing once the pump has kicked on. im sure there is probably some way to wire the pressure switch to an EBC aswell for a turbo setup so should the pump fail it will be limited to wastegate pressure.

the best fail safe i have seen is the ones on the AEM EMS it backs out timing and adds lots of fuel while lowering the boost...

alkycontrol... He is local and really knows his kits and tuning for them
ask for Julio

As for tuning I know on his GN kits he has a progressive conroller that is similar to a nitrous controller. Pretty nice kits, has low level warning and arming lights HTH
