Default a/c question?

I have a 1990 Bronco II that I just had the r134A refilled and dye tested for leaks...everything appears ok except the air doesn't seem to blow out of the vents on max as it should...it does cool down inside the truck but it takes about 5-10 minutes....Does anyone think it might be my a/c motor on the firewall or this just usual for this year ford?

If you have time, pull it out and clean the motor and fan thuroughly. It just might be dirty...

I had a similar situation with another vehicle and cleaning it helped a bit. But it is an older car/truck, and the system does deteriorate with age..

Over time the evap also gets clogged with shit which will tend to block air flow over the evap.

jeff - there is a great product you can buy that is sprayed up into the evap case through the drain outlet --- this foams and cleans/disinfects and can improve air flow.

Also you may have one of two other problems...
1. air vent distribution issue from vacuum leak or bad vent actuating diaphram and/or...
2. you may be icing at evap which will also restrict/reduce air flow and cooling effectiveness. (cycle switch issue or improper freon charge #'s}

Did you get all that?

Greg

Most shops know a BG distibutor and many I know like this product:

I use to turn wrench's for a dealership and we exclusivly used BG products. And take this from a cetrified technician they actually do work. But they only work so much so its not always a fix all, if it clogged to all hell then the only real way to fix it is to take it out and either clean it or IMO if your taking the case out just replace the evap.

^ yep, what he said.

Also, "Max" is recirculating air within your vehicle, thus... do confirm your vents are functioning properly to allow for this feature to work.

^+1 betting on a evap fin clogging airflow. I use BG products everyday.. Once you either fix the problem. Avoid running the a/c on fresh air, run it on recirculate. That way your not sucking in that hot humid florida air. Once it starts getting on the evap, heating-cooling-heating-cooling, it creates mold which stinks like shit, and tends to cause the buildup on the evap.
