Question Using tractor fluid instead of ATF in transmissions.

Anyone every tried this ? I guess it is a kind of a down low trick a lot of racers are starting to use and it is now gaining popularity with street driven cars.

Apparently though you have to get the correct tractor fluid since there are many kinds, types, and brands.

The correct tractor fluid must be rated for use with wet brakes or powershift transmissions.

So far I have found that John Deere Hy-Gard and Case-IH Hy-Tran are the top brands.

Thoughts, comments ?

I'd like to personally see someone run it for multiple passes before I even thought about trying it.

What is the benefit?

Scott,
There is or was a huge thread on The Turbo Forums.com about alot of the guys running the hy-gard in their Auto trannys. I would link it, but I am at work, and I cannot access the forums from where I am at.

transmission fluid is just hydraulic fluid, should work fine if you get the one with the right friction co-efficient.

That thread is actually one of the first ones I came across when reading up on this.

I might try it in the refreshed trans after I break it in.

Seems to me, if there was some secret ingredient that made it so much better - it would be in normal or a performance labeled ATF already?

No real secret ingrediant from what I have found thus far. It just has higher temp values and a few other things.
