Hey guys got a question for you.I did a rear brake job on a lady co-workers 2002 6 cyclinder mustang.Anyways she had the pistons that you have to use the special tool to compress.So i did the job and they worked great.Anywyas this was done about amonth and a half ago.So she calls me saying she just spent 900$ to replace the caliper and piston on one side of the rear because it seized up a couple of days ago?Could this be due to something i did?I didn't really have any issues when doing it?

 

$900 for a caliper? ( the piston is inside the caliper) so its one fucking part ...... Shes either a fucking idiot or a liar or bolth

 

Nope ... very likely an issue on the horizon back when you helped.
I believe/do in replacing vitals brake parts such as calipers and hoses, worth the often one time investment.

Really, she paid how much??? You need to call for pricing on rear goodies (calipers, any hoses and good pads) from a part store and tell her --- she needs someone to get her mad-on directed toward those thiefs, not you.

no shit a complete loaded caliper for one of those is less than 100$ and about 10 min. worth of labor. I can't see ANY shop charging more than 150$

and no, I doubt you caused it. YOU don't know if it was really seized.

 

+1 on that! She got robbed if she paid that much money for a caliper. Plus if she had a problem and she thought you did it she should of brought it back to you to see what was going on. Any good mechanic stands behind his work. I won't warranty shit at my place if someone brings me a bill from another shop to fix something I might have done. Sounds like a scam to me.

Why did she stop for break work anyways? Was it grinding? Did you notice that side was worn worse? Really, they probably promise her a free check? Then.... Oh Ms. ...... We can't let you leave. It would be unsafe and I could never do that in good conscience.

Well thanks guys now i don't feel so bad!The reason she went in is because someone told her that her right rear tire was on fire?I guess it was just smoking from the piston being locked up?She took it to a stealership and hey told her that her left rear brake would have probably locked up to in a week or so so they encouraged her to fix both(Bullshit)women should always call a person with some knowledge before making financial decisions.lol

 

so they replaced every part in her brake system including the lines and peddle for $900 then right?
