Default Restoration questions

I have a 69 Mach 1 Mustang GT. 351 W, 3 Spd. Auto.
I bought this car in 91'.
And it always needed body work, but engine wise and drive train wise it ran pretty good.
It sat out in the weather for a few years, and I finally pulled it down here and put it in my garage where it's sat every since.

I would like to restore it.
I believe I can handle most of engine work and mechanical work.
I lack the skills in body and interior, and wiring work.

The car needs lots of body work, re-wiring, engine, suspension, mechanical all around etc..
I wouldn't take much to get the engine run and drive it, but I want to fully restore the car.

Can anyone tell me of places that can help me out with something like this? About how much I can expect to spend per hour or total?

Or any advice or tips for me, from people that have experience in this type of work?

Thank you,

Tony

It will cost more than its worth if you have to farm out everything. Countless projects die right as yours is sitting because there is a mountain of work to be done. I say make a detailed plan and budget. Lay it out on what is first etc so you can take it one thing at a time. If you look it all in the eye at once ,it'll crush you. Yes, been there. cool car to do man.

I really appreciate the advice. Good approach. You're right it is overwhelming when I think about what all needs to be done. I think I will try to take it one piece at a time.

I would give a rep if I knew how I appreciate the info.

My approach was stripping the car down to the frame, sending the frame and body off and getting it sandblasted and powder coated, or whatever method of removing the rust and applying protection, and doing the welding and body repair work as needed.
I feel like if I can get that done, I can handle the other work that needs to be done.

I'm just not sure how much that would cost me or if it would be better for me to do the sandblasting, sanding, etc... myself and then sending it off for finishing or what.
Trying to find the balance between time doing it myself vs. money paying someone else is what I've always battled with.

I'm just hoping I can get it restored before I die.

While it may sound good to the body a little at a time. It can be a real problem down the road. I've restored thousands of vehicles in my 26 years and at reasonable prices. If you need some advice or a price give me a call. If I don't answer (bad service area) please leave your phone number and a message and I'll call you back. Joe 941 704 9986

Good advice by shinysideup!

I've got a 70 Fastback (or SportsRoof if you want to be correct ) that i'm slowly resto-modding. I am taking a similar approach to you, stripping it down, getting it media blasted, etched and primed. From what I've seen a decent media stripping job can run on an average of about 1k-1.5k give or take (however i"m in TN so it might be a little different from a price standpoint).
Personally, I'm not much of a body man, so I plan on farming out the repair from that standpoint and a few other items that are high impact when it comes to a vehicle's presentation, however I plan on doing as much as possible from a mechanical standpoint.
Either way, good luck with it and hit me up if you want..

here are a couple of different sites that i've found to be helpful:

Main Index - Vintage Mustang Forums
1969 Mustang Supersite Web Forums - Powered by vBulletin

Thank you, I got your number down. Once I get a budget plan together I'll give you a call. I'll also try to posts some pictures too, give everyone an idea what I'm in store for.

Thank you again.

I ran the numbers and it reports as a Mach 1, I thought it also reported it had the GT package too but I'll have to look again. It does have GT flip top gas cap.

I'll check up on it, see what I can find.

Thank you for the number and info.
