Smog Pump Removal?
I'm finally getting around to actually doing something to the '84...and exhaust is the first thing on my list. I want to remove the smog pump since I'll no longer be running a cat (plus the hard pipes running from the pump are rattling around). Is it absolutely necessary to use a "smog pump delete kit" with the pulley, or can I just run a short belt without any issues? Is there any advantage to the pulley rather than a short belt?

I got the March Alt bracket which deletes your belt tensioner and it works great. I think it will come way to close if you just get a shorter belt. I can take a picture of what it looks like if you want.

Ran a short belt for 10 years, never a problem.
