Default Sounds like rod knock...

But I am pretty sure it isn't.

I have finally gotten back to working on the cars again and am focused on trying to get the 63 completed. A couple of weekends ago I had to shuffle the projects around in the shop and when I moved the Lincoln it had some severe knocking. Now I've been starting it every now and again as it sat there and I had never noticed it because it only happens when the car is put in gear (reverse.. drive... matters not). When it is not in gear it runs like a dream.

I was also having some issues with it staying running when I put it in gear.. after a few checks I saw that it was very low on transmission fluid... topped it off and problem solved.

I am thinking that the knocking was flexplate, torque converter or something along those lines but my knowledge is somewhat limited (and failing it seems as well . Wanted to come here and get a couple of opinions before I started looking for the solution.

I'm not exactly sure where it is... I've got to get Susan out there to help me so she can be behind the wheel while I am looking around. It is just so obnoxiously loud that I would think (key word) that if it were a rod or lifter that I would be able to hear at least something while it was in park.. but it sounds damn smooth.

make sure the bolts holding the tq. converter to the flexplate are tight.
