Default A few questions about 94-95 5.0 convertibles

A friend of mine is interested in getting a 94-95 5.0 Mustang 'vert and has a few questions. I figured I'd come ask the experts for him.

First off- what kind of power can you get out of the car with bolt-ons and a supercharger? He's used to 350 whp in a much lighter car so he wants at least that much considering the car will be a good 1000 lbs heavier. With a basic setup of bolt-on parts like intake manifold, headers/ exhaust with an off-road H pipe, bigger injectors, something like a Vortech S-trim and a good tune, what kind of power could he put out? I know the 5.0s in the fox bodies can take at least 500 ft/lb/400 whp for a long time- with a good tune, is there any reason why he couldn't pulley up to whatever boost it takes to hit that kind of power (15, 16 psi even?)

Second- are there any general problems he should know about with the cars? More on the topic of the increased power, will the tranny/rear end/ etc. self-destruct at those power levels given he's just going to cruise and street drive with no real drag racing? If so, what kind of drivetrain mods is he looking at?

Third- what kind of suspension mods should he be looking at for those power levels? Subframe connectors, rear lower control arms, etc. Not sure how the rear suspension/ diff mounting works on the Stang.

Finally the most important question- what are the best forums to go searching for info on (besides this one). Answer this one and I can probably answer the other questions for him myself.

1st hp? 400 is pushing it

2nd? Yes he will need a tranny up grade..... stock not too good over 300hp. verts already have a rigid chassis so shouldn't need much there at first. Battle boxes would be a good idea

3rd? Here and corral.net are both good

good luck

topher right, without a set of good heads and a cam the blower can only do so much (keeping boost reasonable) so the first thing would be to get H/C/I and a good tune. Then step up to blower or nitrous and 400-450 should be attainable.

With that car being so heavy I would certainly suggest better axles if he does start putting power to it.

Change the gear right away, it will be the best bang for the buck, seat of the pants mod he could do.

oh I thought you meant 400rwhp is pushing the limits of the motor.. not the combo..

a blown 5.0 w/ stock heads and cam isnt gona make 400rwhp. Unless its turbo'd or has a serious blower with alot of boost and that would still be difficult.

I say for reliability sake just do a h/c/i setup on it nd if your still not satisfied spray it. A DD blown car ends up becoming costly after a while.

Who cares, almost all Mustangs are slow stock under the year 99. I mean Fox's make the same or less horsepower stock. He plans on giving it forced induction so he's fine.

I'd personally go with a 96-98 Cobra convertible though...
