Go with a 180 thermostat. Mine used to ping really bad, I out in the 180 stat and and I have to run 89 octane in the summer but I can get away with 87 in the winter

The 4.6s in the panthers are notorious for pinging. But since hers is a 94 it has the crappy egr design. It is most likely clogged with carbon. You need to pull the egr off and clean the passages with a paper clip. There should be a writeup on Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Marauder, and Towncar on how to clean the egr on the 92-95 4.6
