Default Some info needed about a 5.0 assembly

So, a couple of quick questions. I'm putting my motor together, something I REALLY shouldn't be doing because I really know absolutely dick about putting this motor together, but I'm doing it anyways. Now:

1) With cometic MLS headgaskets, do I need to put anything around the water jackets? I used some silicone gasket stuff for the threads of the studs that go into water jackets, but the water jackets themselves, are they cool to just leave open, or do I need to put something in them? Also, any tips on making sure those MLS fuckers seal properly and don't leak? It said, "dry installation recommended" so I used nothing all all, just set them on and pushed te head down on them.

2) Just how the FUCK do you fit the lifter guide retainer onto the lifter guide? Sounds stupid, I know...but I put the lifter guides in between the lifters with the side that says "Up" and has a bump on it facing up. Then I try to put the lifter guide retainer (spider/dogbone/whatever you wanna call it) over them and it sits like an inch above the holes where I need to screw it in to. Are there spacers that I lost or something, or do I just need to press really hard?

And vertical scores on the walls of your cylinder are fun...even moreso when you're going to be cramming 15 lbs of boost into there and hoping for the rings not to burn up. If this abomination of a motor actually turns over and runs I'm going to be quite impressed...

you shouldnt need any sealants for the cometics...unless when u put water in it it leaks water at the bottom of the head, then you just use some alumaseal and it will seal them, we had that problem on our first motor...as far as the lifters go...install the dogbones to keep the alignment of the lifters, then lay the spider tray down and the curved part of the spider acts like spring tension pushing down on the dogbone when you tighten the pider down you will see it work...it just lays on top of the dogbones and gets bolted down...thats it..

+1 on what chad said.... and if you go "cramming 15lbs of boost" your going to be burning up more than rings....

Okay, good deal. So I guess I've gotta push down on the spider tray pretty damn hard then, eh? Works for me, and thanks for the tips on the Cometics - I guess we didn't screw anything up yet then...

And Cody, whatever it takes to get 500whp. If it breaks....fuck it, R block.
