Default question about the "B" cam

i was talking to this guy yesterday and he told me that the B cam performs better if you put the recomended 1.72 rockers on the exhaust side and the 1.6 rockers on the intake side. He said it gives it more velocity? anyone hear of this or thinks this makes sense?

using two different rocker ratios is not uncommon in the chevy camp. gives you extra lift to compensate for the small exhaust ports.

well what they recomend for the b cam is the larger 1.72 rockers all around i assume. i just found it odd to throw a smaller rocker on there and get MORE power? less lift = mopre power? im sceptical

imagine sucking in through a paper towel tube then blowing out through a straw. Makes sense that if a stock exhaust valve is not capable of scavanging it well enough stepping down the lift on the intake side might balence it out. As said above Ive heard of it on sbcs but that was in a rediculesly monster valved high revving high compression sbc not in a street motor.

I agree with your disbelieve tho. I wouldnt mind knowing what exhaust set up was on the car in question and how much REAL gain there was.

B cam specs are with 1.6 rockers. No where in any Tech info will you read Ford "recommending" mixing the ratios with that cam.

There may be cretian applications that you would net a couple of hp at best by mixing ratios, but that is only trying to mask your poor choice in cams to start with...

+1!!
with as many profiles and the unlimited flexability of custom grinds the only reason I could see doing that is to SEE if it would be an improvement then have a new cam ground or somthing.

having had 2 b cams I think the best set up is as follows

tie chain around b cam.
go fishing.
throw cam overboard to hold the boat still while you fish
drink lots of beer.
pull up b cam and go home, brag about the "big" one that got away.
repeat every weekend.

buy better cam

end of best use for b cam.
