bottom line is it should be more clearly marked, every school zone i encounter on my way to work has a flashing light.

 

here is the drivers hand book online, i don't see this particular school zone sign, there is an obvious speed limit sign, but the school sign on top is not in the book.

Hey steve, are you really gonna bullshit everyone here and say you cant read SCHOOL? You damn well know what that is! ANY speed limit sign on a road is the LIMIT. Are you so self-righteous that you think that doesnt apply to you. Sure, we all may make the decision to speed sometimes, but take it like a man when the law enforcement keeps you in check. If this is on your way to work, id think youd know the route anyway.

everyone is entitled to their opinion. i certainly do not condone anyone speeding in a school zone and the tradgedy's of the past few days are terrible events. Do you realize that there was not school zone, properly marked or not where that tragic event occured?


I understand that speed limit signs are the limit, would you expect a 15mph speed limit sign on the side of a 40 mph road? if you read the florida drivers handbook you can see that this in not a properly marked school zone, as there are specific signs for each type of zone/traffic control. there is a reason all stop signs are red and octogon, and school zone signs also have to conform to this standard so they can be noticed by drivers.

as a matter of fact, this is NOT my usual route to work, i was forced to detour because of an accident.

if i didn't feel like i was in the right i would have never posted this, you seem to be the only person who feels i am wrong, i wish it would have been you who got the $257 ticket this morning, in a school zone that is not clearly marked. the damn sign is a swiveling speed limit sign, i have traveled this road in the past, not in morning or evening, and didn't even know there was a school there. A BIG FUCKING SCHOOL ZONE SIGN WOULD HAVE MADE BE BE AWARE TO SLOW DOWN. NOT ONE THAT IS SIX FUCKING INCHES TALL.

IMHO I don't see a problem; it's a speed limit sign and looks to be pretty clear on the side of the road; you were speeding, you got caught; you just gotta deal with it...

I don't think you have a snowballs chance in hell getting out of this given the fact a child was just killed on front of a school....


are you really pissed because you honestly feel the zone is not safe for children, or because you got a ticket?

 

i agree it is a speed limit sign, and i was going faster than 15mph, but not by much, wasn't going faster than 20 because there were other cars on the road, i am required to go to court, so i will fight it if i have to show up, i'll already be there so i may as well.

i think the child that was killed in front of a school would have had a better chance if it was in a school zone, there was not one there and it was a really terrible unfortunate accidnent.

i am pissed for both reasons actually, i think all school zones should be marked as described in the florida drivers handbook, at the bare minimum. i would have never gotten a ticket had there at least been a standardized sign to make me aware of such zone. i don't normally take this road, and never will again in the mornings

there were 4-5 officers and they were writing bags full of tickets, i don't think that would have been happening if the zone was clearly marked, i can't envision any reason to speed through a school zone. hopefully they can use some of the revenue raised to mark it better .

 

its kinda a catch 22. the sign clearly states 15 mph but the fact that its a school zone and only marked w/ a 3" shitty sign is pretty pathedic(sp?) on floridas part. I think in the light of all thats happened they would have nailed you if you were doing 16 IMO. My best advice go to court fight it and you should only have to pay fee's but be the bigger man and when your standing there tell them it needs to be better marked w/ signs, lights, and paint on the pavement. Hell the little ass school my brother goes to has better markings than that and its on a side street in spring hill.
