Engine talking longer and longer to start

Ok.. when I first got my car 1987 5.0 fox in january... It started up right when I turned the key.. Now after driving it for a while it takes about 4-5 seconds of cranking to start the motor

What is causing this?

starter solenoid could be on the way out, swap it out, its a cheap part and good insurance for later on.

see if that changes anything

ohh? well it isn't like the starter sounds bad.. the starter seems like it cranks pretty strong.. just it takes a while to start... Sometimes it does it sometimes it doesn't...

cycle the key a few times before trying to turn the engine over, see if that helps.

sorry, what do you mean by cycle the key?

$hawn 11-29-2006 01:15 PM

turn it on then off...a couple of times with out going all the way to start.

ohh ok I will try that.... What should I be checking for? What just after I do that just try and start the engine?

If it starts up right away what could that mean?

$hawn 11-29-2006 01:27 PM

it just primes the fuel system.

Just had on in the shop doing that and it was leaking injectors. Try holding your foot to the floor and see if that helps. If it does try some injector cleaner
