Default High Mileage Modular...

Just wondering what the reliability is on high mileage modulars? I'm thinking of purchasing one maybe, I've looked at a couple and two have caught my eye. One had 101,000 miles on it and the other is around 89,000.

I drive to Orlando Monday-Friday and I go out Saturday and Sunday, was wondering if a modular car could take a lot of driving and abuse? I do take care of the car, oil changes, blah, blah, blah.

Was just wondering how modulars take to both mods and regular driving at high mileage?

96-98 by the way. GT of course.

I can tell you I had a 96 Mustang motor with 150K+miles I was spraying at the track on the weekends and its still running great today. I sold a 2000 F150 with a 5.4 to my uncle, it now has 160k and is having no problems.

So in all 100k miles is not a lot for the modulars.

My friends low milage 5.4 shot the plug out of the head. I think that could be an issue as I posted up about it and it's quite a common problem.

I've never heard any anecdotes about the 4.6's however.

Honestly it all breaks down to how the car was managed and maintained. I've seen and read about modulars in the high 100k' miles still running strong. Now on to the mod part of it. The 96-98 are the npi gt's so there lacking already, and it's a 2v so they respond all that great to the bolt ons. Get a 96-98 cobra with the 4v goodness. If you do get a gt, make sure you do the PI head/intake swap, it makes a big difference.

My 98 had 110,000 and I use nos on the weekends. So far nothing has gone wrong. I do take care of it and change the oil all the time. It just depends on how the people took care of them.

I agree I'd get a Cobra of those years too, but I've seen so many of them have a lot of problems.. Infact every one I knew had issues when I had my 96GT.. Which had no problems besides the tranny I destroyed
