Default Taking off chrome molding

Ok this is my g/fs car... She has chrome fender covers which look terrible in my opinion.. But she is afraid that if she takes them off there will be a lot of rust hidden underneath..

Here is a video of the car.. (yes it is a burnout video) but just look at the molding..

Any advice on taking this off?

even rust would look better than those IMO. Just take them off, hiding rust isn't fixing anything, just making it worse.
