Modified Exhuast Ticket
I was given one of these tickets a few nights ago. I'm just hoping i'm not the first mustang to get one of these. My car isn't nearly as loud as alot of the other mustangs and camaros running around but the cop informed it was too loud.
From what I understand the law states it is have to be stock oem spec exhuast. That doesn't make alot of sense being as flowmasters and dynomax mufflers are 50 state legal yet not pinellas county legal.
Good thing it's only 80 bucks but still amazed I got that tickect. If I had been at wot and the bov and wastegate were making noise and the car was at 7000 rpm then maybe but cruising at 60 or so is some bs.
So any other mustangs recieved this ticket?

I've gotten "You realize son, I could give you a ticket for your exhaust too but I'm gonna let you off easy with just this 300$ speeding ticket".
He had me standing out behind my car, I left it running with the a/c on. He wrote the ticket on the wing and was pissed that the exhaust was burning his eyes

50-state legal means thet they do not effect emissions. Exhaust noise laws are different. Fl law says that you cannot make your exhaust any louder than stock. I hate my Flowmaster 40's i want to get a setof Deltas

If thats the case, that is more strict than California who has db requirements for different RPMs and even specifies a measurement location and microphone direction.

Looks like the state statue is 316.293(5)(b)

As for the loudness thats just a bs thing to write tickects for unless they have a db limit. The link I posted doesn't state any such limits just says louder then stock.
When you consider that the exhaust companies sell several thousand mufflers a year just in our area it just doesn't make sense. If there was a requirement I would go and test it and make sure I was within the law.
I wonder when this law was passed and if anyone knew it was even going to be a law before it was already done.

It says you cant modify it to be louder than factory.
Id test it per their procedure and if its lower than the specified limits, Id take it to court. If its LOUD you will have a problem, but if its not that loud, Id say you have a decent chance with the judge.
