+1. The 400M which uses Cleveland heads is over an inch taller than the 351c and came with a big block bellhousing (except for a very few which came with the small block bellhousing, Pantera guys eat those things up though).
ford has what they call series(family) for there engines
351c is in the 335 series..
429/460 is in the 385 series..
then theres the FE series 360/390/428..
than theres the windsor family 302/351w..
it was chevy who started the small block/big block difference...
and I asked this how can a 396 be a big bb and a 400 a small block??
is it cubes or external size/weight or inline/canted valves that cast them into bb or sb......

it is the stroke and bore that makes the diff in a big block chevy and a small block..
link so u can figure it out and see the bore and strokes we use..now we can run small blocks with a 4.200 bore and a 4.50 stroke crank..not many people know but sonny leonard built a 500ci small block chevy back in 1994..most u see now a days is a 472..theres a couple that run pro-mod and q8 classes..are big blocks also have 4.90 and 5.00 bores now for prostock engines.
