2006 4.6 3 valve engine. First oil change. Ford says 5W 20. I am thinking synthetic...or am I wasting my money??

dino oil till you hit $3-4k miles ..then synthetic all the way and fords new clearances are tight so stick with the 5W20.. napa synthetic is actually repackaged valvoline FYI

Hmmmmm I wouldn't do synthetic. I have heard a synthetic can hinder break in.

run synthetic after 3k mi, then switch to a mobil 1 5w20 full synthetic, this what we are told to do to the C6 Z06, b/c they come with free oil changes

you dont think ford would void the warrenty if it had a oil that wasnt suggested by them? i know it sounds stupid but this is ford we are talking about.

i would at least use the manufacturers reccomend oil, not a lesser item, there is a reason ford wants you to run semi-synthetic. fyi walmart has a gallon just of mobil 1 for about 20 bucks, my 4.6 in the explorer uses 6 quarts, so check your owners manual.
