How the hell does that happen?? I think some one might have panicked and jammed the throttle to the floor and sent th rpm's to the friggin moon. I can't see how an impact caused this much damage to just the motor?

well, it's a track only car, he said he was going into a hard sharp left, probably downshifted at too high an rpm, overrevved it, a rod bolt gave which jammed a rod into the side of the block breaking the crank and therefore breaking the block, just my guess though.
I do have to say theres a lot of "fuck" going on on that site

seems to be most of the quotes............god I feel dumber now.
I actually had a vette where a rod bolt stretched and sent a rod sticking out through the side of the oil pan in about 3 places, looked like car accupuncture, I guess it didn't like my fuel line (rubber) sucking down and leaning the car out on spray!!

As for the overrev, the kid swears it didnt...I guess we need William Duvall to hit the memory tach like he did in Days of Thunder though.
Even still, I wouldnt think a tossed rod would cause the bottom half of the block to fall apart.
On the otherhand, my buddy wiped out the #1 main on a 2.3T motor that was making 720 to the tires on a stock crank and block. The assumed root cause was actually RPM ringing the crank, which then led it to tear up the mains. Maybe something like that happened, and with the fragile 5.0 block the crank ringing managed to just tear the piss out of the bottom end. Once the structure of the main webbing was gone, the crank just busted up.
