ive never had luck with a coathanger or nails. Go to Wal-Mart and buy the 3 dollar tool to do it.

I've used coat hangers before. You have to use the metal ones, plastic won't work 
You have to jam an end in each hole. Keep pushing and you'll feel the coat hanger go past the "latch". Once all are past, you can slide the head unit out.
