Default 8.8 rear vs 9 inch

I am debating whether to sandblast/repaint my 8.8 or upgrade to 9 inch rear on my 89 GT along with adding 3.55 or 4.10's...car will be pushing 400-500 hp and will be street/strip....what do you guys think I should do or what would make sense for my application as far as price and durability...let me know please

i was putting roughly 1000 hp through a 8.8, upgraded with the appropriate parts (33 spline axles, spool, etc) but never had an issue...

The 8.8 can take the abuse, just upgrade to 31 spline axles and differential. The advantage to the 9 inch is that the whole pumpkin can be swapped out fast. It would be essential if you needed to swap gears or the differential fast. If you not planning on round by round elimination, build the 8.8....
