it's a motorsport oil pump drive, one end is pointy, the other isn't, it's fine.
im getting the blocked checked and call the rod manufacturer to try to investigate what the hell keeps happening here, it's puzzling, for sure.

You're not the only one puzzled Steve. Tell John to give us a call when you get your block over to his shop. We want to talk with him and have him check a few things on the block while it is over there.
Block or head(s) cracked?

Oh man me and my motor builder spent a lot of time on this when building my motor, almost two weeks. I bet it is thread engagement on the oil pump shaft.
My builder made adjustments to my block and oil pump after checking the engagement. Then I almost had to custom order a oil pump shaft to be built for my application but at the last minute I found one from a 239 Y block that fit perfectly. I will have to find a picture of it. It is from ARP and it is literally twice the diameter of the flimsy Ford piece. Also it literally has 3x the thread engagement into the oil pump.
Sorry about the news.
