violent shaking in front ideas? plz

drove my girlfriends explorer yester day and the front has a extremely violent shake. Feels like im driving over those really rough groves that are in the roads to slow people down. It happens quite frequently i dont even know if she should drive it today. Its a 98(i think) explorer eddie bauer 4x4 with the 5.0 motor any ideas as to what this is hopn its not major but probably is.

You feel it in the steering wheel? The whole truck shakes? Could be a broken belt in a tire

As Jerm pointed out, + broken belts in the tires can be felt mostly around 25 - 35 mph. She could have a tire out of balance, bent wheel, bad alignment, or other issues. It is going to be hard to tell.... Did you check to see what the tires looked like? Any cuping?
