Ford 8.8 questions
I have a few questions im hoping you guys can give me some info on.
Im looking into the Ford 8.8,with disc brakes
I need it in a 4 lug and if possible the shortest width I can find it.
Would the Fox body mustang be a good place to start looking for one of these?
How much HP/TRQ are they good for?
Whats the average going price for one of these, brakes to brakes?
I just need a little info to help me find out if this is what I need.
Thanks

You wont find a fox mustang with disk brakes unless its an SVO, or Saleen, or Cobra and the saleen unit is that same as the MK VII, however these are all 5 lug. You can also look for T bird Turbocoupe which had 4 lug, but was still wider than a fox 8.8 by 1.5" total. They can hold up o a decent amount of power depending if your using slicks, because those will cause axels to snap like a pretzel. And the average price is about 200.00 for a disk to disk rear end.

to convert to rear disk is actually pretty simple, there are a few companies that make brackets and with some GM calipers from a Cadillac and some 4 lug or 5 lug rotors, you can get rear disk brakes, alot of the jeep guys do this, and its cheap and works pretty damn good. But most guys do the axle swaps, use a proportioning valve and get a different master cylinder, cuz you will need one from a 4 wheel disk car, if not you have some fugged up spongy brakes to work with, which I would not invest 10 cents into. But yeah , 99% of all stangs other than those listed above came with drum brakes. And what is lsd????

I converted my Crown Vic to rear disc from rear drums. Using the original MC and Prop valve. Brakes seam to work fine, although they need to be bleed again. With the 10" front disc and the 11" rear disc, car will throw you into the belts pretty damn hard.

Yup, and theres a few ways to convert to disc. Some companies just sell kits, some 4 and 5 lug
LSD=Limited Slip Differentual im pretty sure Ford calls it that.
GM calls it POSI
Heres what i was thinking on the disc brake set up.
Take off the drums/back plate etc etc..
Find a rotor with the same lug pattern.
Weld on the bracket to the rear end, with the caliper. You just got to make sure the spacing is the same.

Don't forget the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe came with an 8.8 rear with 4 lug disk brakes. The only issue is that setup is about 1.5" wider than a mustang. The housing is the same but the axles are longer.
I actually have one of these rears for sale with a 3.55 gear for $50 if you're interested. Its complete.

Dave,
Can you measure from the farthest point (center disc to center di
So I can get an idea on how wide it is.
then I will compare it to my stock rear, the gearing dont matter I need high 4s
