alternator trouble

Default alternator trouble

Hey guys i replaced the alternator today and ran the 4 gauge wire from the alternator to the starter solenoid,when i started the car the light AMP came on and the battery gauge on my car was low,now the alternator is a 1994,put into a 87 fox with a stock 302,i replaced the factory black with orange chaser wire cause it was burning up the day before,i took the alternator to discount and they tested it and its throwing 14 volts is that correct for those alternators,shoudl i replace the starter solenoid??or what else do you guys think i burned up?? any help would be greatly apreciate it this is beging to be a headache...by the way anyone know if i shoul dput a inline fuse on that wire and wha tkind?

Did you hook up the alt charging light?

is that the lil one wire conector i hooke dup all 3 conectors on the alternator and on the starter solenoid i removed the black n orange wire that comes from the alternator to the starter solenoid

you have to keep the black and orange wire on the solonoid. you don't need them on the alt end if you have the 4 gauge wire there

is that why is was reading no voltage or very lil if that

yes you need to keep them hooked up at the solonoid. just tape off the ends from the alt end cause it will still have batt current in them.
