Default Any IRS guys do the swap?

Curious if anyone local has swapped the IRS for a solid in the 99+ Cobra and what their opinions are?

I'm SOOO sick of wheel hop. It's F-ing sad when you can't do a burn-out on street tires because you think your teeth are about to drop out of your head....

From what I've read people that do it love it.

Anyone care to chime in?

The solid axle swap would be the first thing I'd do to your car bro.Alot of people have done it for the exact reasons you said.Do it,you won't regret it.Oh,I see you every morning, very nice car man.

And with a solid axle and a drag suspention Terry's car would see 9.5's.

I'm not worried so much about strength as I am the ability to do a good tire warm-up. That coupled with the fact that more then half of my street passes are greeted with wheel hop. It's not worth the money or effort to slightly improve the condition-- I'm looking for a remedy. It's a bonus that the car would drop 100 pounds in weight...

On a side note, one guy said that he picked up 4 tenths in the quarter and went from 2.0x 60' times to 1.8x just from the swap.

Just got to find someone that wants to do it.

I did it, one of the first things I did...it reduces weight and a solid can handle very well or you can go more drag oriented like my car. You can still have hop with a solid, it depends on the tires as well. Will you go .4 faster from the swap? prob not but its not a bad thing to do.

More then anything I want the wheel hop gone and with that gone, goes the fear of broken half shafts. My '98 Cobra never gave me any issues for 70,000+ miles and never once did I get wheel hop. She loved drag radials.
Anyway, I'm not looking for big number gains on my time slip although I know there will be some improvement.

This will be a daily driver but it will see some track time a few times a year. No road racing for me. Not my bag.

A guy already contacted me out of Orlando and said his friend wants and IRS for his '00 GT.
If you wouldn't mind telling me some details on your swap, I would greatly appreciate it. Perhaps some things most people don't think about or your experience in general...

Any idea what it would cost for a shop to do it?

contact Sam @ coastal, I traded for a 96 solid which is shorter than the 99+ rears and I like it better but you are not trying for 1k at the wheels either. Your 98 didnt give you troubles b/c it had a solid, 99+ have IRS. If the guy wants to swap, iron out the details, he pays for his install, you pay for yours, I put new springs and UCA's, lca's while I did the swap and later rebuilt the whole thing. I daily drove mine with no troubles.

Not new to Mustangs.
Been riding and turning wrenches since '98.

I have no bread to thow at this little project because my kid is due next month and all the money we have will go to him for a bit. I'd love to slap some new uppers and lowers on there but I can't. His is a '00 GT so I assume the axle length is the same. The question I have at the moment is whether shocks and rear brakes will need to be swapped. He's running lowering springs while I'm still riding tall.
