Carb and intake must match?
After talking with my father about what sort of things I want to put on the car, I told him I was going to get an Edelbrock performer rpm intake, to which he responded, "...with a carb to match?". My father doesn't have a large amount of mechanical knowledge regarding cars but it is his belief that the intake is tailored to the general type of carb you have. Since I was talking about moving from the two barrel stock to a holley four barrel, he said if I buy an intake, it might fit only the two barrel, or only the four barrel. This is all asuming that there is not an inbetween piece that I am completely oblivious to, or something of the like. I'd like to know, does the intake you have need to match the carb your using as far as how things fit together and such? My guess was that since both items I intend on purchasing a compatable with the year of my car, that they would be compatable with each other, but I really don't know. Thanks in advance.
If you have a 2 barrel cab right now and plan on switching to a 4 barrel, and since you are looking to buy a new intake anyway, you might as well buy an intake made for a 4 barrel instad of using a 2 barrel intake with an adaptor.
well there is different flanges, like a holley 4150 and theres a holley 4500. so if your intake is for say a dominator(4500) and you buy a holley 750(4150) then they wont fit each other. also, try to get an intake that is close to the rpm range of your cam

Just to add another caveat.... Different manifolds can handle higher/lower CFM. Wouldn't be a good thing to install a manifold that can handle higher CFM than your carburator. The reverse is also true.

I believe he is working with a SBF and if I remember correctly, they only offer an intake manifold for a Holley 4150 carb. I have yet to see one that is cast for a 4500 series.
I could be wrong though. If I am, I'm gonna be upset that I spent the time to weld the 4500 to 4150 adaptor to my Victor Jr. so I could run my Dominator.

P.S. I planned on running a 4150 anyway, so there's no problems there.

In the end I intend on having it all match up quite nicely, so I hope, but is there any detrament in upgrading it bit by bit, aside from the carb/intake fitting issue?
