im looking into getting cams for my 96 cobra sometime up the road but i know nothing about cams lift , duration , x d blah blah i know nothing
what is a good brand and/or type of cam to get with exhaust/ intake/ tbmods.. no internal mods.....
and should i port and polish the existing heads before i install the cams?

Comp or Crower both make good cams for your car. im guessing you running a N/A car so dont even worry about all that duration and crap like that cause you will just get confused. do some shopping around and just find a set of Stage II N/A cams for your car. buy the approiot springs and have fun. NOTE: cam swaps for your car are extreamly EXPENSIVE. looks forward to paying about $1000 or more just for the hardware then another $600-$1000 to have them installed.

With 96-98 cobra heads aka "B" heads you don't really want to port and polish them too much. Since they have dual ports for each cylinder they flow like a motha but lack velocity. You don't really want to port them but clean them up. With heads and cams you probably only gain about 35-45rwhp. Not really worth it in the bang for buck category. But our heads shine under high rpm or forced induction. The fastest mod motor uses B heads. For cam specs you may want to check with VT engines www.vtengines.com or Al Papito at Boss330racing.com
Our cams aren't cheap so if you are determined to go all out n/a prepare to spend some cash. But build the bottom end and slap a blower on and you'll have all the power you want. -Mark

Could use 03 Cobra cams and 99-01 Cobra cams. The 03 cams are designed for SC application (duh) so you wouldnt want to use them for a turbo or nitrous application. Even the Aviatior (sp) cams are an option. I remember talking to Sam about the samething a month or so ago but I cant remember what would be ideal for NA. Give him a call and see or try a search on corral. Good luck.

when i first got this car about a yr. 1/2 ago the first thing i wanted was cams but i did see the cost of having 4 cams... wow so that ended up being my last mod instead. i want to stay n/a. eventually maybe buy an aftermarket block and the whole setup or bore the stock block and build . nitrous maybe but otherwise no forced induction.
i have an rx7 if i want to mess with a turbo.

so you guys say no to the porting of the heads? i have heard the my heads flow badass but i figured there was still room for improvement. but if porting my heads may lose the little velocity they have i guess ill keep the stock porting

For N/A Comp Cams 106500's

The specs for that cam are
Advertised @ .050" w/ 1.82 rocker
IN. EX. IN. EX. IN. EX. lobe sep
277 275 242 240 .475" .450" 114

4Vs have too much exhaust valve area so it's importatant N/A applications to not have less lift/duration on the exhaust.

Keep your intake cams. The new 03/mach 1 cams (which are the same) are more for mid range. Since our heads lack velocity they designed the B headed cams for high revs. But you can swap out for some exhaust cams(avaitor, navigator, o. That will help mid range. You can do a clean up job on the heads just don't go crazy with the porting. Get a shortrunner intake and that will pick up around 15rwhp. With all the bolt-ons, shortrunner intake, gears, and sticky tires you be around 300rwhp and capable of mid to low 12's. -Mark
