explorer motor swap
explorer motor swap
I was thinking of throwin an explorer motor in the 5.0...
I called a few junkyards and I can get them for around 500-700 bucks..
what all would need to be done to throw it in my car?
I'd get cam + springs and rockers and just throw it in probably..
is there any real complications?

You'll need a special set of headers since the Exploder 5.0's use the GT40P heads and have different spark plug angles so factory headers and usual Mustang headers won't work.
Depending on the year of the motor, it may have the EDIS distributorless setup on it. Not sure what is involved in running that system with a distributor.

hm.. I'm just gona get the mac longtubes.. and swap out the plugs while the motor isnt in a car.. as well as do the cam swap/springs/rockers.

Thats exactly what I've done with my mustang, I bought a longblock out of a 97 with the gt-40p heads on it, and its basically in and out (with the 97 engine anyway)
I put a e cam, rockers and springs in it and its running strong right now, realllly strong.
They make impressive power, im happy i did it.
I don't know about the header deal, I bought the ones designated for the motor, the gt-40p motorsport ones, they are nice.
Anyway, stock distributor dropped right in and i got it to fire on the first time no problem

P headers are not required actually, you can take your spark plug socket and grind it down about 1.5" and use that, if there in real tight than your screwed. But still not mandatory.

90* plug boots work also as opposed to the regular 45*. You can do a search on Corral, and you will see plenty of people that did it, they just grind the socket wall till they get to the body of the socket. And burning the boots is common, yes, but again 90* bots work just fine, also I think I remember people using DEI plug boots to help also, dont know if it really works, but just some pointers I read.
