5.0 L Troubleshooting
Posting this for a friend.. Swapped engine (heads/cam 302) into new car and at the same time converted to carb. The carb would have been tuned for its previous setup which was probably making more power, but the car was running strong the first couple of days after the swap.
"My car is runnin' like sh** dude. It's missing for some reason. All its doing is sputtering when I give it gas. Yesterday after work, the temp gauge showed 220 degrees. I noticed that it was leaking and squirting oil from the dipstick to the header because it was so loose. I put some teflon tape around it and bolted it to the valve cover but it still smoking a little. I also replaced the valve cover gasket just in case it was that too. I still have to set the timing which will probably be today hopefully. Do you think the timing has anything to do with it over heating? I also switched out the electric fan too. The original one had just one fan blade but my buddy had an extra one at his house that has 2 blades."
My first guess with the overheating is the thermostat.. he says he doesn't know how old it is so that's a good possibility. As far as sputtering, there are a bunch of possibilities.. The car has relatively new head gaskets and they have not been subjected to much power yet.
Thanks guys,
Mike
