nope, all you need is the adapter( rag joint) for a manual rack, the shaft is the same. a mustang 2 manual rag joint works perfect if you can find one. my old setup was a flaming river rack w/ mustang 2 joint. worked perfect

????????
what lower shaft? the rag joint, or coupler, connects directly to the rack. mabey i'm not understanding what your saying. i did this conversion and all thats needed is the man rag joint because the splines are different.

Just to be sure for future reference the Flaming River part number for that shaft is FR1604 or 1604 ,correct?

we are talking about the same thing. the shaft does not need to be replaced, you can buy the rag joint/ coupler seperate. as i said a mustang 2 coupler /rag joint from a manual rack will work and it will connect to the shaft off the column. i did this on my car. the $180 fr shaft is not needed. fr also sells a coupler for about $60
