questions about fuel cell for 89 GT
questions about fuel cell for 89 GT
I am selling my stock fuel tank in favor of a trunk mounted fuel cell...Does anyone know where to get one at a decent price and what is involved in hooking this up...If anyone has any pictures would appreciate that and any advice as well

Just remember you will also be required to have some type of firewall between you and the cell to pass tech no matter how fast or slow you go.

I'm also interested in plumbing a fuel system. For both N/A Carb'd Applications, as well as EFI/Vortech Applications. My car's an '84 w/a sumped tank. Pictures would probably be helpful
Thanks,

Summit sells fuel cells pretty cheap. I have one going in my carbed notch, but not sure what brand it is. There is a common size of fuel cell (I think 12 gal) that fits in the stock mustang spare tire well. If you do that, its just a matter of strapping it down (can buy strap kits with the cell or make some), cutting a small hole out of the spare tire well to clear the fuel lines, and plumbing the lines. You can get what are called "Adel" (SP?) clips which have a rubber protector on them and will allow you to mount the fuel line to the chassis securely. Most run the lines along the passenger side frame rail, up between the inner fender well and front right fender, and into the engine compartment. If the car has subframe connectors, you can run the lines right next to them and the subframes will hang lower than the lines, protecting them. I'm running braided line on my car because it came with the car, but some guys run aluminum tubing (easily bent by hand) and just put flared connectors on either end. Alot cheaper, but some question its durability in an often driven car (over time the aluminum will vibrate and become brittle some say). If you do braided line, go to Amazon Hose for the hose and fittings because it will be about half what you pay at a speed shop.
I figured out how to get pictures from my camera loaded up on my computer, but it is way to dark out now to take any. I will try and get some shots tomorrow before it gerts dark.
I finally had time to figure out how to post a picture.
I mounted the fuel cell and the fuel pump inside the trunk so there wasn't anything hanging under the car. If you look, you can see that the inlet for the fuel pump is still lower than the outlet of the fuel cell.

Yea, it is a little on the small side, only 5 gallons. Got it from Derek when he parted his car out. I understand you need a little more for a street car. What do you have? A 10 gallon?
